How do some people do it?
Can someone please tell me; how the hell Kevin Smith is the #2 hot writer on Wizard's top ten writers list? How can a guy that took a total of four years to wrap up a six issue mini series be considered a hot writer. Who the fuck votes on these things? Kevin Smith and View Askew fan boys? We covered a bit of this in our last podcast; about fans that still support creators like this. I found myself guilty by supporting Whedon on Astonishing X-men, but to be fair the case there was a bit different. Whedon was working on Serenity the comics, wrapping up the movie, overseeing the Angel comics and of course working on AXM. Smith was just working on Spiderman/Black Cat and Jersey Girl.
Could there be something else to this story though? I did something I hadn't done in a while this weekend I went to his blog where he claims he hasn't been paid for any of the Spiderman and Blackcat: The Evil That Men Do books. Now I could understand if in the middle of writing issue 3 he found out Marvel pulled a Pat Lee on his tubby ass, but in his own words he found out a few days ago. I've been a fan of his movies for years, but how is this acceptable? Ahh the beauty of working in comics; I wish I could tell my boss its going to take me three years to finish a small project.
