Scythe!
I've got a new favorite comic book sound effect, courtesy of the rubbish that is Uncanny X-Men 471:
SCYTHE!
This is, evidently, the sound a sweep kick makes when it is intended to knock down a friend whose face is about to be eaten by a Shi'ar bug monster. It's a very specific sound that is nigh-impossible to produce outside of a bus station, and I'm sure Rachel's TK has something to do with it.
Apparently, the Shi'ar Death Commandos arc is over, thank God, without any real explanation of why the Shi'ar decided that now was a good time to eliminate the strain of the Phoenix once and for all. Of course, this may be another rogue ship, like the one that appeared in Phoenix: Endsong (which is strangely not mentioned in this story), but one gets the impression that this operation is legit. Of course, one gets that impression because that's the only way the story makes any sense, not because it's implied by the story.
The comic ends on a classic "X-Men do not kill" quote, which is bollocks. Rachel apparently doesn't kill. Anymore. Maybe because she can always SCYTHE bad guys instead of killing them from here on out.
What a mess. Chris Claremont can write some awesome stories, but this arc was complete shit.

X-men do not kill? I missed that memo! I guess Uncanny X-Men doesnt kill is a rule started after wolverine left, and Jean for that matter... man I say people mail Claremont the book with a post it "Read me, because pretty soon no one else will be."
Wait a minute. Why would Rachel Summers even need to preform a sweep kick? Isn't she the world's most powerful telepath? I guess this is along the lines of a similar Green Lantern question...why isn't he fat? The ring does all the work, all he has to do is think of something interesting to create.
My fav writer sound effects come courtesy of Ben Edlund back when he still wrote "The Tick" comic semi-regularly. He gave actions that didn't even make sounds onematopia. Like "Contemplate!" or "Stare!"
At least you get Scythe with that comic, I get Kanji with Manga translated by Tokyopop and Darkhorse. The X-men have really been lacking in these past few years. My favorite writer on my favorite title and it still sucks. He's had an okay run this time around. Its time for him to just save face and leave the book, because the editors really don't want him there to begin with. They need the new blood! You know the kind that comes on a title and kills a character for shock value...oh shit wait, that's already happened. Deadly Indeed!
Past the point of saving face, he sucks ass now. Go do something else, under a different name!
I lost all faith in Claremont around issue seven of Xtreme X-Men.
