What the Fuck were they thinking moment?
I don't know if this will be a weekly thing or not. But this has to be the WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING moment this week. Taken from IMDB.com:
Ledger To Join 'Batman' Cast As Joker?
Brokeback Mountain star Heath Ledger may have scored the coveted role of The Joker in the Batman Begins sequel, according to press reports in Australia. The actor was reportedly offered the plum part last week and will star in the next installment of the film set to be released in 2008. Oscar-winner Robin Williams was reportedly desperate to land the role and The Da Vinci Code star Paul Bettany was also rumored to be in talks for the part. According to film website Moviehole.net, filmmakers wanted to cast an actor in the part of Batman's adversary who was roughly the same age as 32-year-old star Christian Bale. Ledger is also working with Bale on I'm Not There, a film in which seven actors embody different aspects of musician Bob Dylan's life and work.

My vote was always for HammilI or hell Williams has always wanted this part too. I believe I need to stress this again: WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING? I really hope Nolan knows what he is doing. Granted Ledger is a good actor, but come on the Joker?
You can also find more information on the film at www.batman-on-film.com They have up to date information on the movie, and the site is usually updated everyday. On a side note, there are questions of making a Superman Returns sequal; Singer said it didn't meet expectations, but they'll see how the DVD sales go.

I think Mark would be a hard sell, the guy is starting to get older and he's done the super-villian thing already, (Trickster on Flash TV series, Joker on Batmam: TAS, etc.). I am not saying Mark couldn't pull it off, cause the guy has got range. I don't necessarily like that Heath Ledger is going to be The Joker but, I'd dislike it even more if Robin Williams was. I guess the movie all depends on Nolan's vision of the next one, and ultimately given Batman Begins I am gonna try to trust him on the casting choice.
I trust Nolan on this one. We're all just skeptical because Ledger has not done any wierd nut-job roles. Everything he has done has been a heroic straight man, save for Brokeback. I think Ledger should lose some pounds a la Christian Bale in the Machinist to get that lanky look, put the nose and make-up on him and whala! The Joker.
Hes proven himself to be a good actor, so I dont question that he could do it. What we don't know is what kind of Joker he will be. And who is Harvey Dent? That is the next question.
man, when i included that tidbit in the "13 things i learned at comicon" thing, i was SURE it was a rumor and would not come to pass. wow. i'm pretty shocked here, but when i take a step back, i have to say i'm ok with it. i've never seen him in a movie that i thought he was bad in. i didn't see brokeback, but that's just cuz i just happened to never see it. i've seen plenty of good gay-oriented film. AAAANYWAY, back to the topic, I'm really surprised they went with him, but I'm eager to see what he does. I was skeptical of Bale at first too, granted it was not nearly as much as i am of Ledger. anyway, go for it guys, you've been pretty good so far...
I'm okay with it also. I just had this image flash through my head of him in a dark alley, shocking someone with a twisted bit of cruelty and turning to look with a sick smile on his face. And it totally sold me that he could do it.
I think that's still a rumor. Not everything on IMDB.com is entirely reliable because the users write the articles and such. Rumors get posted on there all of the time.
If it is true, then I can honestly say that I am not happy with that casting choice. Sadly I have seen Brokeback Mountain, and he was decent in the movie. The movie itself was boring. I wasn't as entertained by the ...controversial... scenes as some other people that I know were.
Ok so in all honesty the casting choice is really not that bad in my opinion. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and say that he can pull of this role.
