You figured with four issues you would get more answers than questions? Wrong! What is this Lost? We have been teased since the beginning that there will be a definite answer to Wolverine's relationship with Sabretooth. Instead of caring about the main focus of the story, I'm just wondering how the hell Wolverine knew how long the Roman Colosseum has been around?
At first I thought this was just another dumb fun book, but I really think Loeb is trying to tell a story here. I can usually stomach a Wolverine vs. Sabretooth fight, but these issues have been so damn dull that the only reason to even flip through the comic is the art. This concept might have worked 20 years ago, but the characters have so much history between them, it's hard to squeeze some more out of it. There are better Wolverine/Sabretooth stories out there and I don't think this particular one is going do redefine anything, because in the long run nothing else will be affected by this.
So far it's been 64 pages of scratching and clawing and lots of roaring (normally that would be hot, but these grown men). This issue, unlike the cover suggest, has no fight between Sabretooth and Wolverine, instead it focuses all on Wolverine trying to figure out who Romulus is and just the name alone bringing fear to Creed's face. Of course this is the first time Wolverine has ever seen that look on Creed's face (ohh man even if I wasn't a big fan of continuity in the x-books, I would still find that hard to swallow.)
Creed is locked up by Wakanda technology while Wolverine looks for beer. Hellz yeah! I miss the days of Wolverine's drunken adventures. Considering he has to drink like a case to get a small buzz going, I feel sorry for the King of Wakanda's fridge. Seems like a suped-up Wild Child helps Creed escape. So who comes to help Logan, Storm, and Black Panther find Sabretooth? Well shit...characters that have nothing to do with each other of course!!!! A team of Sasquatch, Wolfsbane, Thornn, and Feral come back to take Wolverine to the heart of Weapon X!!!
That's right! Sasquatch who was a retired superhero, until just recently, Wolfsbane who is busy solving crimes with X-factor, and of course the depowered sisters Thornn and Feral. Boy, House of M really impacted the Marvel Universe forever! We are taking Wolverine back where every writer takes Wolverine when they think they can do better than Barry Windsor Smith and Larry Hama! Back to Weapon X! Let's go shit on that wonderful story one more time! Hell this time we might find out that Weapon X wasn't really the letter X, but the Roman numeral 10!!! Wouldn't that just make your nuts shrink!!!? Ohh wait....anyway what the fuck are Thornn and Feral doing being mutants again? Or for that matter out of jail? Why is Kyle not bald and looking like Nosferatu? I seriously doubt Frank Tieri's Weapon X series will be touched by Loeb.
Enough about the boring ass nonsense that Loeb is getting a check for; onto the art. Bianchi's sequential artwork is amazing, while sometimes his faces are a little off. The fluid movement between panels more than makes up for those few occurrences. For example, just look at that cover. What the hell happen to Wolverine's and Sabretooth’s faces? Did they get hit by a semi? I do not recommend this book in any way, unless you are a fan of the art. Save your money and go buy some Wolverine essentials! D+

I agree with everything you said (I still like Morrison though, lol) Plus, the flow of this book is soo bad! near-Splash page of a waterfall and some narrator boxes and I'm supposed to jump to him waking up? Stupid. The introduction to the wolf-squad is pretty stupid, I still love the art though and for me this would actually pull it up to a C- because the art is just nice to have. Though I stil agree with the faces thing too.
Yeah, I keep waiting to learn something in each issue, and we never do. Loeb has gone downhill since he left DC in my opinion.
Jeph Loeb obviously doesn't know what these characters have been up to in the last four years. You know what? That is pathetic that a writer can not do his research. Go back to DC and take Mcguiness with you.
I'm just Hoping and Praying that he doesn't fuck up Ultimates.
Wolverine needs to kill Sabretooth at the end (even if he is brought back to life in the future) in a manner to be remembered, but I don't see the point. As Wolverine have been going lately (a man with sooo much fighting experience, that have been trained by all the best, and 100 and so years old) being beaten by Bucky, Cap. America ( a man that after drinking something became the greatest fighter in the world, then frozen solid and brought back to life is able to beat the perfect killing machine is beyond my understanding)and any nerd out there, wolverine must just die. I mean, seriously, Cap, Cyclops, spider-man, angel and one million other heroes without a healing factor fight everyday without being touched, and, for goodness sake, just because wolverine has a healing factor, he gets beat up by the mole man. Def. he should die. Every body and their mothers are upgraded but wolverine; instead, he gets downgraded (not having his metal). A child is born and before he learns how to walk, he is super strong, but noooo wolverine, they have to limit him by not being strong enough, he must die. A man gets blind and he becomes a super fighter even better than Logan, Logan that has more than 80 years fighting experience, he needs to die. A guy that by a single whisper can destroy a city and wolverine can't cut the Hulk's skin, Logan must die.
Not even when Logan had no skeleton (about 100 lbs. less) was he fast enough to touch spidey).
Wolverine is my favorite super hero but is it really a need for him to get beat up by every one in the marvel universe?, he goes toe to toe with the hulk but he can't beat the punisher?
I can hear people saying that because of that, he is even better, not as strong as the Hulk, Thor or the sentry but he can fight them and maybe beat them, but then, 10 year old boy that can't even ride a bike can hurt Wolverine.
Wolverine must die and then brought back to life with a new metal, a metal able to cut through adamantiun; stronger, at least as strong as spider-man, a healing factor like the one he had when he last fought Nitro.
Wolverine should be a man that should be dealt with by a team, because one on one no body should be able to touch him. For the love of the Gods, even Luke Cage was talking crap to Wolverine, LUKE CAGE!!
Wolverine must die so Electra can replace him...Yes, she that has beaten Logan every time they fought, she who is about 25-30 years old and can beat a man that is more that 100 years old with more than 80 years of experience in fighting all type of fights.
I feel much better now that I have let out my frustration!!
You can't just have Wolverine killing everyone though he can... people just need to avoid really bad story lines involving Wolverine fighting someone like the Punisher who he should be able to, fairly easily, take out.
Wolverine is still vulnerable and able to be smashed but still is able to come back because of his healing. That's why he's good for fighting near impossible-to-beat foes like the Hulk and the Sentry. That's why you can even put him up against such foes and see how he does with his limits, and that's why he makes a good character to have. Though he is arguably one of the most "powerful" in terms of battle skill and knowledge and in terms of his mutant ability, he can still be checked.
Anyone that writes him as anything less than being able to hold his own against even the most powerful foes needs to not write him. He's not just some dumbass brute. His knowledge and experience make up for his lack of strength or flight or speed or whatever, which is why he's REALLY formidable, rather than only partially so.
Right on. I get the feeling that the lost all sense of proportion. Remembering how Wolverine killed a whole army of the Hand and basically whipped ass with cunning, superior fighting skills and so on in the Wolverine v. 1 and v. 2, suddenly he turns into some sort off incompetent idiot that gets burnt hollow by Nitro, as if he didn't know better, gets his ass whooped by BUCKY of all people! I can get Omega Red or Cyber, but come on... most of the guys whooping Wolverines ass wouldn't have a chance if there was any sort of continuity...
