I REALLY don't like it. And that's a damned shame, because I've been so excited to finally see what he's going to look like.
I just hope they get his characterisation just right... I should have faith, because I loved Batman Begins. I'm just nervous of it all going tits up this time around.
I (think) I like it. I didn't like the idea for the scarecrow at first and how did that turn out? (awesome is the answer) When you really think about it this is exactly how he would look, I only wish we saw him smiling, but you can tell this is a guy who could haunt your nightmares.
I think the real issue I have with it is that he's obviously wearing lipstick. And if it is lipstick, it'll probably be facepaint... so are they not going with the "face altered by chemicals" story?
And if the first pic we get of the Joker is smile free, they better not be giving us an emo Joker... I at least want a little crazy mania in there.
His face is disfigured, his lips look a little melted and his cheeks are scared, I see a pre-obsession with the "joker" figure (like with the card at the end of the first movie) turning into an outward expression of an altered state of conciousness.
I kind of like it. First, it does away with all the "will he live up to Nicholson" crap. Second, he looks insane. How many serial killers will be putting on their lipstick like a Revlon girl? Give him his own identity.
Not sure I see the Kakihara similarity...but damn, Ichi the Killer was one fucked up movie...
turk
just reminds me of kakihara cuz of his expression on his face and his jacked up cheeks and the angle of the shot and stuff. it's more in the aesthetics than the actual look, if that makes sense.
Yeah, I suppose I see it given the angle, but they'd have to slit that smile another few inches to get to kakihara. And wouldn't it be cool if they let Miike make a Batman film? Now that I'd pay to see...
turk
If you look at the corners of the mouth you can see where they've made it look like his mouth has split open a little wider.
One concern I forgot to add was how much his origin would be like the comics, I really like what they did with the first movie so I'm fine with some splicing here and there, but being horribly disfigured, and having your parents killed by the evils of a city, are both great motivators, If Baman isn't responsible for the creation of the Joker, I just hope whatever they come up with is just as plausable.
I'm not sure how this pic has anything to do with the motivation of the Joker. This doesn't imply one way or another if Batman "created" him. If anything, the end of the last movies tends to imply the Joker was around without Batman's influence, unless they backtrack.
Regardless, I still love this pic...makes the Joker look truly unstable. And that's a plus. Also, unlike many, I have confidence in Heath Ledger. As one of the few straight men to admit I watched Brokeback Mountain, he's one hell of an actor.
turk
Oh, and I loved Batman as well as Memento (in my top 10 movies ever), so I trust Christopher Nolan and his direction explicitly.
turk
I know the pic has nothing to do with his motivation...I was using it as a platform to mention my only feelings of doubt, as this picture will have some people doubting.
Yes, the end of the last movie shows that the criminal who leaves a Joker calling card could mean a preemptive/non-batman influenced origin, but remember that Jack Napier loved having a deck of cards near by.
What I'm saying is that a criminal could easily have taken on the monicker of the Joker before the accident and after the accident (caused by batman or not) used the former alies to reinvent himself. A la altered state of conciousness.
If you've seen Momento you KNOW Nolen is thinking about this way more then me.
Also, there is no clear time frame between the last scenes of Begins, in that time Batman could have accidently created the Joker, but I doubt that will be how they go about it, who really knows...
Yeah, I know the end of Batman Begins is a bit hazy as far as the timeline. Like I said, they could backtrack. It almost seemed tacked on in the first place as kind of a "look! a sequel!" moment. I'm just hoping Nolan is more clever than that. As you mention, Nolan is about the twist in the story, but I guarantee he has more people looking over his shoulder here. Let's hope he gets some leeway.
Still, I'm just hopeful this Joker isn't "kiddied" up like the original Batman movie, as much as I liked Nicholson, he was more mean than homicidal other than a henchman kill or two. I want to see a homicidal maniac that even the comics steer away from (how many times can the Joker be put into a psych ward?). Supposedly this guy treats human life like a joke. Let's see it on celluloid for once. In this kind of movie, there's no reason for the Joker to return, unlike a comic published 24+ times a year (as Batman/Detective is), so lets see that Batman vs. Joker finale we all want, and only got in Dark Knight.
turk
they took that pic down on the site it popped up on (ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com i think) and now it's just an "error image not found" text, but if you hi-lite it, there's a ton of hahahaha's with a few letters scattered around in the mix. take all those letters and line 'em up, and it says "see you in december"
most people are guessing that means they're planning on doing the teaser for the movie in december, and the pro's are speculating that it'll be with nicole kidman's the golden compass and / or will smith's "i am legend".
I like the image. There have been some rumors around that the Joker starts out wearing a clown mask with his henchmen as well during heists, and then when the mask comes off, he has clown make-up on (seen here?) and that all that stuff takes place before he falls in acid and goes totally bonkers or whatever.
i think it looks so fucking cool. i can't wait for this movie to come out. the joker looks really scary.hopefully this movie will be better than the last couple comic book movies i've seen(spider-man 3 and 300).
You didn't like the 300? Really? Wow. Well this thread is getting long enough and i don't wanna de-rail it or anything, but for what it was, i thought it was pretty sweet.
This is a very disturbing image of the Joker...and I mean tuck your dick between your legs Silence of the Lambs disturbing. In other words, it's badass!
I think that the verdict is still out on this one. I really think that Heath Ledger will do an amazing job though, and like everyone else I also think that this new pic is creepy as hell. I am still going to wait until I can see the whole git-up. I don't expect this Joker to be anything like the one Jack played or any other Joker that we have seen before. It is going to be insane.
Is anyone else hyped that Aaron Eckhart is playing Harvey Dent? I love this guy ever since seeing Thank You For Smoking, and I think that he will be phenomenal.

this nice little hype generater appeared before the joker phot release and after the official movie website went online.
yeah, the photo i posted was actually from 'the joker's spin-off site" ibelieveinharvydenttoo.warnerbros.com/
it started as people having to give their email addresses and then the site would send them x and y coordinates for a pixel, and they would unlock one pixel of the picture i posted. now it's gone and the whole "see you in december" thing popped in.
I'm used to my Joker with a long Jay Leno chin, but this'll do. "Less about his laugh and more about his eyes." Love that.
The picture just yells
"Hey Kool-Aid"
