Ultimatum #4 Choose-Your-Own Verdict

| | Comments (7)

So I thought I might write a review for this comic since y'know, that's sort of what we're supposed to do here, but instead I thought I would just tell you my case (it isn't good) and then, as if this were some sort of court case, give you evidence supporting it.

Verdict: Ultimatum is shock-gore horse-$#!% intended to make you THINK it's good because they're doing "CRAZY" things, when really, it's just superbly bad writing with people dying to make it look important.

EXHIBIT A:

Apparently, Ultimate Spider-Man is dead. Way to go, assholes. The only reason 90% of the readers pick up Ultimate titles is now Jeph Loeb-fodder.

EXHIBIT B:

BUNGHOLES?! Damn you, Loeb. Nick fury DOES NOT EQUAL Beavis and Butthead. It's the Ultimates, you wrote Ultimates 3 so "Edgy", why can't he just say assholes, or jerks, or ANYTHING BUT BUNGHOLES!?!?!?!?

EXHIBIT C:
ultimatum3.jpg

Explaining why this is bad would be like showing you the a video of the victim (Comic Books) being stabbed by the defendant (Jeph Loeb) and then having to actually explain why that is bad.

EXHIBIT D:
ultimatum4.jpg

He can't even write his own Evil Villain Dialogue. He has to borrow it from the Bible. Lazy and super F'd out.

EXHIBIT E:
ultimatum5.jpg

Gore for the sake of gore. OMG THEY KILLED TEH DOKTOR STRANJJ!!!1

EXHIBIT F:
ultimatum6.jpg

More gore for the sake of gore. So retarded. So so retarded. No fights, no characterization, it's like a kid playing with action figures. All that's needed is just the characters hitting each other and everyone's having the time of their life. This is so $#!%.

So there you go faithful readers. Make up your own minds. Is this not awful? Also, I love Finch as an artist, and this is some of the worst work I have ever seen him churn out.

Well, if you like your superheroes dying only to be retcon in a few months, then this book is for you. Thanks for saving me three bucks, I see why I stopped buying Marvel now.

Josh,

Gotta agree amigo: Nick Fury saying Bungholes? What? Totally threw me off guard! I love me some Beavis and Butthead but it does not mesh with Ultimate Nick Fury. Really interupted the flow of the comic.

It's also sad that this isn't Finch's finest work. With all the delays (when is issue 5 supposed to ship?) one would think this would be the work of his career. Sadly, that's not the case. Still, I'm a huge Finch fan and I hope this lackluster art is the result of a horrific script.

Still looking forward to Ultimate Comics: Avengers and Spider-Man.

Take care, tell Chris I said hi!

I wouldn't worry about Spider-Man...his series is relaunching in a few months.

Though I do thinks its cheap that they are selling Peters death that way.

Agree on all accounts on the violence, gore and death thats going on in this miniseries.

I've been reading it at the store(then putting it right back on the shelve) and I just feel like they want to do an extreme version of the company wide cross over.

"This is shit you couldn't do in Secret Invasion!"

Bad call in this series all around.

I tried to get over the unnecessary amount of bloody deaths by looking forward to the big epic shocker to come, then I realized...there is no big epic shocker. We're four issues in and the climax is just a bloody final battle with Magneto. Poor storytelling, there have been so many stupid gorey deaths and they've lost they're shock value completely.

It's a shame that the first era of the Ultimate Marvel saga has to end with such a Lame event. Finch, you're awesome man, but leave this stuff to Marvel Zombies.

I agree with you guys, I'm really optimistic about Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Bendis will keep doing an out of this world job. The Ultimate imprint has always had a lot going for it and I think it still does after Ultimatum even if they drop a lot of titles with a bad story arc.
