Movie Cap Concept Art Posted
In my opinion, it looks freaking awesome. Maybe I'd change the helmet, but whatever. I'm happy with it.

In this episode, we read and discuss an email from a fan and discuss upcoming movie news. First comic mentioned is The Boys. Blackest Knight is in there as well. There's some flash and a teensy bit of marvel, but it's mostly Ultimate-oriented. Listen, and listen well my friends.

Good times, my friends. After the last West Coast Podcast, our buddy (and band-leader) Justin Q was inspired to elaborate on our mental image of Cap deciding to enter the Siege-fray at the end of Siege Issue #1 with an awesome sketch.
Siege is discussed (at length) and the group is surprised to have genuine, earnest and well merited positive feelings towards Marvel! Mark your calendars, kiddies, this is one of the first times the West Coast Crew has unanimously agreed on something (we haven't fact-checked that). Also discussed: The State of the Ultimate Universe, Jeph Loeb (getting better!?), John Romita Jr., Blackest Night, Batman and Robin, Spider-Woman (and cross-dressing as her), Captain America (and his stream of justice), New Krypton, and your humble servant, yours truly, get's spit on and taken for granted. Woo! Take a listen, NERD!

Authors: Alex Ross & Jim Krueger
Artist: Steve Sadowski

When I saw that Jim Krueger and Alex Ross were going to be working on a project for Marvel, I really got excited. I thought their Earth X books were some of the best written alternate-future Marvel stories I have ever read. I then found out the Invaders were going to be involved and I was reminded how wonderful Buziek’s Marvels was. Something happened to my excitement when I found out that someone other than Ross would be drawing the book and that the New Avengers would be involved….ohh yeah it went away.
The first part of the story is told through James “Bucky” Barnes’ journal and it re-introduces us to the Invaders (I still get confused with Toro and the Human Torch). As the Invaders take on some more Nazis during WWII they come across a green mist and walk through it, well everyone but Spitfire and a dying Union Jack. Meanwhile Spider-man is having a fight with the Thunderbolts about registering for the government (I can’t believe they are still ramming us this down our throats). Out of nowhere the Invaders appear and it’s Thunderbolts vs. Invaders with Spider-man caught in the middle. That’s pretty much about it, with the exception that Iron Man knows that Steve is somehow back.
It’s good to see a side by side comparison of classic heroes and the new anti-heroes that exist in the Marvel U. Everything that is good about a superhero and the shady heroes clashing together was a great analogy of today’s comics. I really like the young Bucky and Toro interaction; they really stole the spotlight….even from Spider-man, who was just trying too hard to get a joke in every panel. It really bothers me that not all the Invaders made it across the time rift. I really appreciate how much Ross loves the golden age characters, both here and in the DCU, but I wish he was just a little more involved than doing covers and co-plotting. The time travel mist wasn’t explained and to be honest I really don’t know if it will since that doesn’t seem to be the focus of the story.
Sadowski is a very talented artist and I love the colors just going over his pencils. He was able to do two different styles for two different time periods in the book and that takes some talent. He seems to put so much detail in each character and I think sometimes that backfires on him. Some of the lines he adds to the characters are completely unnecessary. Now, the one thing that I am definitely confused about is Cap’s shield. I thought at the time he was donning the classic 40’s shield . I could be wrong, but if anyone knows for sure, please correct me. It’s not a bad start, but the story really needs to get moving if the story is going to last only 12 issues. B-
So on a post in a community I usually check out, I saw a screen-grab from the Iron Man movie claiming that Captain America's shield was hidden in Tony's Workshop in the scene where Pepper walks in on him trying to get the Iron Man Armor off after his real first Iron-Many adventure. Well...I somehow magically procured a cam-copy of the movie (after paying for myself and 3 friends to see it in theaters) for the sole purpose of checking this out for myself, and I'll be damned...here it is...

Too hard to see? Here's a closer look. I've gone ahead and darkened out the stuff around it and kinda enhanced the colors a bit painting over the the dull colors to show what they're meant to be seen as...

And in case you need a reference pic...

I gotta say, I love how they're weaving them all together in small ways like this. My theory is that Tony was using the Cap shield as a reference for material when constructing the Iron Man costume. What else could it be? Anyway, I give this a solid, whole-hearted thumbs up!
In honor of the awwwwesome Zombie Variant Banner Omar Posted, here's a special movie treat I only WISH I had worked on.
EDIT: GAH! It's not on youtube anymore, so I have to link to it on some stupid website. Check the movie out here and then come back to AH and curl back up in our nerd blanket again. END EDIT.
Impressive no? I wish I could have worked on this soooo bad.
In this episode, we open an Iron Man movie figure, read e-mails from Sanna and Ray, and discuss Justice League of America 19, Captain America 36, Iron Fist 13, Countdown 6, Amazing Spider-Man 554, Iron Man 27 (which leads into the discussion about the Mandarin's rings), Death of the New Gods 7, Robin 172, Checkmate 24 and FX 1. We close with a bit of movie discussion, regarding the upcoming Hulk and Iron Man films, Justice League: The New Frontier and the upcoming Batman animated film, and the finally upcoming Evangelion movies.
So the sheet on which I wrote the show notes is at home, and I'm at work, but I want to go ahead and get the episode up, so I'll update this post later with the notes. I can tell you that 1) the audio on this one is much better and 2) we spend a lot of time talking about the Mandarin's rings.
In my absence, Omar, Melanie and Chris recorded a wonderful episode of the show, in which they read a lot of really fun e-mails, and talk about Justice Society of America 13, X-Men Legacy 208, Captain America 35, Melanie discovers a small indy series called Dragonball, Ultimate Spider-Man 119, Batman 673 (not 672 as Omar guesses), Countdown 10, Teen Titans 56, and Kickass 1.
Episode 93 - No Time for Character Development
Shannon Wheeler, creator of Too Much Coffee Man and the new book Screw Heaven, When I Die I'm Going To Mars, joins us for an interview. We also talk about Captain America 34, Batman 673, Emperor Vulcan 5, Green Lantern 27, Ultimate X-Men 90, and Mighty Avengers 8, as well as what we think Batman's death would mean to the DC Universe.
Also, this week (and from here on out), we've got actual show notes! Click on the "Continue Reading" link for links, images, and a few videos.
Episode 90 - You Should Sell Your Comic at Starbucks
Josh (Joshiebear) joins us via Skype for this episode, where we finally get back to talking about new books! In which, in between bad 69 jokes, we take on adult comics, One More Day, Incredible Hulk 110, Teen Titans 50, Outsiders - Five of a Kind and 50, She-Hulk & Dan Slott, Buffy, New Warriors 4, Captain America the Chosen, Uncanny X-Men 490, and we end with a discussion of Warpath (or is it Thunderbird)?
Writer: Jeph Loeb
Artists: John Romita Jr & Klaus Janson
After the abysmal Avengers issue, Fallen Son gets a little better, but not much. This issue's theme is "Bargaining" and features Iron Man, Clint Barton, and Captain America? Can you guess where this is going? Yup, you guessed it! Tony wants Clint, formerly Hawkeye, to be the new Cap. Clint even puts on "the flag" and goes out with Tony to try and capture Patriot and Hawkeye (the girl one, confused yet?). Clint lets them get away, and takes off "the flag," basically undoing whatever this issue tried to do. All this issue proved is that Steve Rogers is the only Captain America there can ever be. We all knew that to begin with. What am I missing here that makes this story one that needs to be told? Each of these issues seems to be missing a point, or even their theme. Like last issue, bargaining only came up once in the issue, the rest was focusing on the future of Captain America. This issue was a okay read, but in the end I still feel like I could have saved my $2.99 for another book next week. I feel like this book is an excuse for Marvel to print money, and ugly Michael Turner Variant Covers. In the end, since nothing really happened in this issue that "changed the landscape of the Marvel Universe" you could skip it and not miss anything.
Even the John Romita Jr. art is not enough for me to compel you to buy this book. JRJR is a master artist, one of the best when he's on Spider-Man, and maybe that's the problem here. For me JRJR is best on Spider-man. I liked his Eternals stuff but it just doesn't fit here. And the coloring by Morry Hollowell makes JRJR look like Steve McNiven in one panel. So if you are a McNiven clone, have Morry Hollowell color you, and if you're Steve McNiven, don't lose Morry, because you are not that good without him. I'll keep reading this series for the next two issues, only to tell you that you can skip it. Well, maybe the David Finch Spider-Man art might make me tell you to buy the book, but we'll see. C-
