News from Spider-ben

Fellow comic fans,
I just found out some sad news. Legendaray Comic book artist Dave Cockrum passed away over the Thanksgiving weekend. Cockrum died due to complications with his diabetes. It's really sad because when I think of the new X-Men I think of Len Wein, Chris Claremont, and Dave Cockrum. Dave Introduced some of the most popular and iconic X-Men characters ever, and his style and flair astonished readers. Even to this day, the designs of Storm, Nightcralwer, Colossus, and Phoenix stand out in the hearts and minds of X-Men fans everywhere. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Cockrum's family, and I hope that Dave has acheived peace and happiness. Dave has done so much for X-men and comic book readers, and I thank him for everything he did for the comic book industry. Rest well Mr. Cockrum, and God bless. link

Ok, so there's some updates on the New Spidey 3 Trailer. It will also be airing on CBS sometime between the start of Survivor and the end of Shark, in other words, primetime. So you have options on TV, but in the whole scheme of things, who cares, because it's also going to be officially released online, so that's good. Now I don't have to sift through MTV crap or what stupid 'reality' television to get my healthy dose of fantasticly awesome superherodom.

In other news, Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures will unleash Marvel's renowned, larger-than-life green Super Hero onto moviegoers everywhere insummer 2008 as they have announced a June 27th release date for the action-packed, new big screen adaptation. It's going to be head up by Transporter 2 director Louis Leterrier. I never saw the Transporter 2, but I heard it was even more over the top and silly than the first movie. This is unappealing to me in the world of the Transporter, but I think it sounds promising for Hulkie! Zak Penn (wrote on X2 and X3) is set to write it. Bonus!

Heath Ledger commented on playing the Joker recently: "*The Killing Joke was the one that was handed to me. I think it's going to be the beginning of The Joker. I guess that book explains a little bit of where he's from but not too much. From what I've gathered, there isn't a lot of information about The Joker and it's left that way." * I guess this has some good in it. I mean The Killing Joke is a good start, but it makes me a little sad that he seems to not know much about the character. Oh well, what the hell can you expect from actors? There's a reason they're there and us fanboys are either glued to our computers or in comic-shops.

On the topic of Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. said most of the Iron Man footage where he's wearing the costume is going to be CGI. He said he wants to be the one they do the motion caputing on though, which is cool. So when you see Iron Man moving around, it'll still be Downey's actions and not just some guy they put in a blue suit with white balls all over him. Iron Man is scheduled to be released on May 2nd, 2008.

Morgan Freeman is in final talks to star opposite James McAvoy in Universal Pictures' Wanted (the Mark Millar book), a sci-fi actioner that will mark the English-language debut of Russian filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (the guy who Directed the Russian Film "Nightwatch". If you haven't seen it, go pick it up at Blockbuster because it's pretty damn cool.) Freeman will play Sloan, the lead assassin who trains McAvoy.
