Too Good NOT to Blog About...

6740_637991488027_24610978_37741875_6765630_n.jpgSo this is not a blog. It isn't personal, it's About Heroes and thus, about comics and movies and anything in the nerd medium. That being said, I have to tell this story because I think it's hilarious and illustrates how awesome my nerd-life is. As some of you might know from listening to the podcasts, I'm conducting an experiment where I'm having my girlfriend read comics to see if she enjoys them on some level, and it turns out she kinda is. So after giving her Ultimates Vol. 1 to read, She's moved on to Vol. 2. Now here's the thing. I had Vol. 1 in TPB format, but I only had the individual issues of Vol. 2. So I gave here the bagged and boarded issues and lightly urged her to be careful with them, just cuz they'd been perfectly perserved thus far and wanted to keep the streak going. I've since ditched the "collector mentality" and am content to just read and enjoy comics, however I do try to preserve them in bags and boards just to keep 'em around longer.

So last night at 1:30, I get a call from Danielle (my aforementioned girlfriend). I already had a pretty lengthy conversation with her earlier and thus couldn't imagine what she could be calling about. I pick up the phone and the first thing she says is "I did something bad." And not in a cutesy way. Like, she really did something bad. My thoughts start racing. What did she do? Did she break my Wii that I've lent to her? Did she hook up with some guy? WHAT DID SHE DO!? I (as calmly as I can) ask "What did you do?" and she responds "....I bent one of your comics." I immediately sigh a sigh of relief, laugh, and apologize for apparently being a tyrant about these comic books and their care, because she felt legitimately bad and thought it was a huge deal. I assure her it's fine (but can't help but ask her not to do it again if she can help it) and hang up the phone. Hilarious. At least in my opinion. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed that little nugget of nerd awkwardness from my life. If you didn't, our money back guarantee stands and you can receive a full refund of the cost of this article. Later kiddies!

WCAH Episode 14: A Kidney Stone To The FACE!!!

Happy Labor Day, Kiddies! In this episode, the West Coast crew read some listener (love?) mail and finally address the Disney / Marvel deal. The conversation eventually breaks down in to general disarray and comics in general, just the way you like it.

WE AREN'T DEAD...

Hey kiddies! It's me! That guy who sometimes throws up crass comics he didn't make about comic books and occasionally does a movie review or podcast! That's right, Joshiebear! I wanted to get on the site and let you know that we folks at AboutHeroes haven't forgotten about you and to thank you for your patience as we go through this transitional phase. To reward you for your patience, I thought I'd give you a peak at what we've been up to so you can know what to expect in the near future.

We've been developing a new live-action news show hosted by our very own Chris Heltzel that's set in the multiverse of comics to give a bit of a commentary on what's happening in comics while also just plain old keeping you, the readers, in the know. We've shot 2 episodes already and will be shooting a 3rd about 8 hours from when I'm typing this now. The set is totally green-screen, so all the extra stuff is fabricated by yours truly after all the other players have done their parts. I took some snapshots you can see below to get an idea of what the show's going to look like, at least for now.

We have a lot of really talented, amazing people working on this and I'm really excited to see how it grows and where it takes us. I sincerely hope that when we start releasing them, you will enjoy them as much as we enjoy making them. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have, I'd be happy to answer them.

Open discussion for comics from November 14

Nightwing138.jpg

HUGE list of comics coming out this week - check out the Diamond Comics website for the complete list.

There are two big books for me this week, and both are because of new writers for my favorite characters. Fabian Nicieza's run on Nightwing starts with issue 138 this week, and Gail Simone's Wonder Woman run starts this week as well with issue 14.

What are you reading?

What are you planning to buy, or what did you enjoy this week? Here's the list of comics shipping from Diamond; honestly, there are a lot of books coming out this week, but not a lot that stand out for me. What do you think?

It's new comics day! What are you planning to read, and what did you think about those books?

Here's the list of new books for October 31 from the Diamond website. Also, note that the Batman and Son set from DC Direct comes out today - if any of you pick those figures up, let us know what you think.

And finally, I've turned off registration for comments, since it seemed to pretty much dry up what had previously been a huge flow of comments on entries. You no longer have to log in or register to post your opinion.

What did you think about the comics that came out this week? Also, what format would you like these weekly discussion threads to take? Should I list the major releases, or just assume that you already know what you're buying? This one's a bit late, but from now on, they'll go up Wednesday morning.

I've not read many of this week's books yet, but I do have one question, to start discussion: If Mighty Avengers had shipped on time, would this week's New Avengers issue have anything to do with its cover?
